Traditional knowledge and culture

The Gulngay Traditional Owners of the Tully area are rainforest people who remain connected to and caring for country. In partnership with the Gulngay people we aim to develop a number of outcomes.

  • Build a collection of rainforest tools for public display which will become the basis of a Keeping Place Museum
  • A Keeping Place Museum to hold objects, images and documentation of importance to the Gulngay people
  • A research centre attached to the Keeping Place Museum
  • The development of projects (visual and oral) to gather historical, informational
  • Cultural tourism highlighting the unique rainforest culture
  • Events and workshops which promote traditional arts and crafts
  • The development of a bush tucker garden
  • How environmental changes affect living on country

Building a collection of rainforest objects

The Tully Arts and Cultural Precinct are accepting donations of traditional objects from local residents. These items will be recorded and maintained for the benefit of the Gulngay Traditional Owners and will be included in a future Keeping Place Museum. Currently a glass cabinet specifically purchased for the storage of traditional tools and objects is situated in the Tully Visitor Information centre. If you wish to donate items please contact tullyprecinct@gmail.com or phone 0484 282 888
